01 Nov Breathe Better: Support PERF’s November 2019 COPD Screening Drive
At the Pulmonary Education and Research Foundation (PERF), we are deeply committed to enabling research, education and other support for patients with difficulty breathing. As part of that commitment, we are focusing on November as Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) Awareness Month and raising funds for preventative COPD screenings.
Awareness is so important because millions suffer from chronic respiratory disease, and many suffer without treatment – undiagnosed and unaware.
Untreated or undertreated COPD increases the risk of many complications beyond shortness of breath, most importantly “COPD flareups” involving viral and bacterial infections of the lung. COPD also increases the risk of heart attacks, blood clots, lung cancer, acid reflux disease, osteoporosis (bone loss), muscle wasting and even depression. You can see why our drive for early diagnosis is so important.
Help Us Fund Screenings during COPD Awareness Month
This November our goal is to provide 300 free, preventative and non-invasive COPD screenings for people at risk for this disease. One screening breathing test costs just $35. Whatever your level of donation, 100% will go directly to providing patients access to this life-saving test.
Why donate to our screenings drive?
- Half of people over the age of 65 have some type of undiagnosed lung condition.
- 30 million people in the United States suffer from chronic respiratory disease.
Please, join us in this very important cause. Help us spread awareness, spread hope, and spread better, healthier lives for those in need today.
