28 Sep Drop in Teen Use of e-Cigarettes Seems to Correlate with Drop in Teen Smoking
Good news: The Centers For Disease Control (CDC) reports that tobacco use nationwide dropped to a new low last year, and simultaneously, teen vaping, i.e. teen’s use of e-cigarettes, fell sharply. FDA commissioner Scott Gottlieb commented that the CDC data are encouraging, stating, “It is critical that we work to ensure this downward trend continues over the long term across all tobacco products.”
Though FDA’s e-cigarette regulations were delayed when the vaping and tobacco industries lobbied and also brought suit to roll them back, eventually they were enacted nevertheless.
According to Reuters, this is the first time since the CDC started reporting on tobacco and vaping, that the use of all tobacco products declined among youth in the United States.
