O2verlap Study Is Enrolling Participants

People with obstructive sleep apnea have periods during sleep where they stop breathing because their upper airways occlude when they try to breathe in; heavy snoring is often a symptom.  If you have both COPD and obstructive sleep apnea, your double set of conditions is called Overlap Syndrome. Studies have found that nearly 60% of people with Overlap Syndrome do not use their CPAP (continuous positive airway pressure) masks as prescribed. And unfortunately, when people with both COPD and sleep apnea fail to use their CPAP machines properly, their risk of flare-ups and hospitalizations increases.

To improve CPAP compliance and reduce hospitalizations for this group, the COPD Foundation and American Sleep Apnea Association (ASAA) have joined forces to study whether an interactive online classroom will help people who have Overlap Syndrome use their CPAP masks as they should.

If you fall within this group, you’re invited to participate in a research project to see if this online classroom program, is effective. Click here to find detailed information about the O2verlap Study, and to fill out a simple form to enroll. There is no cost, and there’s also a possibility that you could receive compensation of up to $75 for your participation. If so, you’ll receive compensation in the form of an online gift card.

Note: because the O2verlap Study is done online, you will need access to a phone and a tablet or computer in order to participate.
