LA BioMed To Honor Richard Casaburi At Annual Gala May 4

Every year LA BioMed honors a select group of innovative scientists at its Annual Gala, and this year they’re recognizing PERF President Dr. Richard Casaburi as one of three scientists receiving honors.

Dr. Casaburi is founder of the Rehabilitation Clinical Trials Center at LA BioMed, and his and his colleagues’ work has led to the discovery of innovative therapies through exercise and other muscle-directed interventions that improve the quality of life for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) patients.

Pulmonary Hypertension – A Young Woman’s Disease

This interesting video produced by The American Health Journal talks about a life-threatening condition that affects mostly young women: pulmonary hypertension. Dr. Ronald J. Oudiz of the Los Angeles Biomedical Research Institute, an expert on the disease, discusses the curious nature of this condition that typically develops in young women around the age of 30, usually for reasons unknown. The ratio of women to men who develop pulmonary hypertension is 4 to 1, but luckily the incidence of the disease is rare: 1 to 2 people in a million, although those with autoimmune diseases such as scleroderma or lupus erythematosus are up to 10 times as likely to develop it.
