Three LA BioMed Doctors Receive Distinguished CHEST Educators Award

The American College of Chest Physicians has inaugurated a new annual program to recognize and honor members of the medical and research community who have performed outstanding work in the field of chest medicine education. Three LA BioMed doctors, all of whom are members of the PERF Board of Directors, were included in the Distinguished CHEST Educator Class of 2017.

Don’t Fall for Bogus Flu Remedies

We’ve talked earlier in this blog about the importance of getting a flu shot before or during flu season, especially if you’re over 65 and/or if you have a chronic lung disease. But what about the opposite end of the spectrum: the importance of not partaking of so-called flu remedies that do not deliver the benefits that they claim? The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently issued a warning against using fraudulent and unapproved flu products claiming to prevent, treat or cure influenza, or flu.

Early Warning Signs of COPD [VIDEO]

What You Can Do to Help Solve The Tobacco Problem

Although cigarette smoking is on the decline, it remains the leading cause of preventable disease in the U.S. More than 480,000 deaths every year are due to cigarette smoking. The rates of cigarette smoking remain highest among young adults ages 18 to 24, people with lower levels of education, those whose incomes are below the poverty level, and some races and ethnicities. In fact, among high school students, tobacco and nicotine use is growing because of their use of e-cigarettes, hookahs, and vaping.
